1995 Thunderbird Motorcycle
I bought my first motorcycle in August, a Triumph Thunderbird 900 built the year I was born. I’ve been stripping the bike down with my dad and carrying out repairs and overhauling parts. The clutch, brakes, exhaust, suspension, cooling system all needed taking apart. We’ve been using a lot of WD40 products along the way; loosening up rusty bolts, cleaning, polishing, lubricating, etc. WD-40 is a great product, particularly when cleaning up rust. A day or two before starting a job I go through every bolt I’ll need to remove and spray with WD-40 to penetrate rust and make removing easier. The bike is still in bits and repairs are on going but I’m hoping to have it back together in June and rideable. I’m currently on with cleaning parts before respraying them and am using WD-40 to break down ruse and clean to prep areas.
Step 1
The bike may look in good order in the first imagine but you can see in the others how much we’ve stripped back in order to repair. The exhaust studs were particularly difficult to remove but WD-40 helped to break through the rust and clean up the threads. I’ve attached an image of some bits I’ve cleaned up with WD-40 ready for painting.
