Broken Bookcase to Happy Storytime!

My aunt was about to throw away this old broken bookcase and I wanted to save it! My twin granddaughters loved painting it and helped to bring it back to life, so hopefully it would be a lovely bookcase for them. I wasn’t sure how it would turn out as I’ve never renovated anything before

Step 1

This is how it looked

Step 2

I sawed off the broken legs and edges and sanded it down

Step 3

My twin granddaughters loved painting it in the garden using chalk paint

Step 4

I sawed pieces of wood to the correct size to fit around the top and bottom of the bookcase. I painted them dark green and attached them securely with wood glue (held with clamps overnight)

Step 5

After applying wax to the bookcase, my granddaughters enjoyed decorating it with bees, ladybirds and flowers and then organising their books!

Step 6

We are really proud of ourselves and pleased with how useful and pretty the bookcase turned out. We’re so glad that it didn’t get thrown away!
