From frumpy to fabulous fireplace!
I got a free fireplace from freecycle to make a focal point in my lounge but it didn’t fit with the rest of my room, I couldn’t complain because it was free but I could make it pretty! I sprayed the metal with an undercoat and then a copper spray paint, then sanded the back to make the pretty tile stickers I bought stick to it to give it a bohemian feel. My best friend helped me find some cheap wood which we sanded and stained to make it look older and we found a piece of old oak in their garage for the mantle which we sanded and waxed, then used that to clad the old surround to make it feel more rustic. I love my fireplace, it cost less than £30 to make it beautiful and it makes my home feel cosy and is always commented on by visitors!
