Getting a non running Kawasaki gpz900r to the TT for the 40th anniversary of the TT win on one
This year I wanted to go the Isle of Man TT races on a bike like the one that won the TT 40 years ago on the 40th anniversary of the win. The only problem was that the bike I got had major problems and wouldn’t start . The starter motor chain had snapped (starter motors are a common problem) which is hard to get to, it was leaking oil from somewhere on to my left boot and had low compression on one of the cylinders. To get it to the TT on time my mate Andy convinced me the quickest option would be to replace the engine. So we ordered one from Sean Jones (The GPZ900r shop – go to place if you need parts in the UK) and met Sean at a services on the M6 to collect the engine. With the help of wd40 to free up seized mounting bolts. The new engine was installed in time for a test ride to the BSB meeting at Oulton Park. The engine ran well but unfortunately the bike overheated, another notorious problem on gpz’s with most having an override switch to turn the fan on in traffic but this was beyond that. We could have sourced another one in the UK but any second hand radiator could have been on its way out, so had a new one imported from the Czech republic instead. Fortunately this arrived in time and worked well so I was able to make it to the TT on a 40 year old bike on the 40th anniversary of the win and see Micheal Dunlop set a new record of total TT wins
