New planters from old troughs
We were gifted two large metal troughs with the idea to turn them into planters for fruit and veg. After buying the metal paint and drilling drainage holes in the bottom. That's where the project ended last year. A wet winter and spring meant that coming back to the project this year, it was a bit of a bigger job! First we used a wrench to straighten out the top edges of the troughs. Then a steel wheel attachment on the multi tool to take off the chipped paint and large pieces of rust. Lastly a pass over with the belt sander to smooth everything over and create a surface for the new paint. Two coats of metal paint went on really quickly with a foam roller, and that was the main project done. Just to finish we lined the troughs and then filled with soil. Finally they could be planted up and a layer of bark spread on top to keep in the moisture!
