I decided to strip our old carpet to reveal the original wooden floor underneath (image1). I hired a sanding machine and sanded the floorboards (image 2), then stained it with Rustins Wood Dye (I used a mix of two different colours: Walnut and Dark Oak) - Image 3. The boards were finished using Bona Traffic matt varnish (image 4).
