Refurbishing back steps on our narrowboat

Our narrowboat has a back step, covered in dirty old carpet, stuck down with double-sided tape, which has been on there for many, many years.. When I peeled off the carpet, I was faced with a tacky glue residue from the tape, which seemed impossible to remove. . I googled for a solution and WD-40 was the reply. It was like a miracle! I sprayed it on, and gently rubbed it with some wire wool. It came away easily. The original rubber-lined step was revealed and is now safely back on the boat. and looking so much smarter.
